It says in description that it's made of wood what they don't tell you is that the posts are cardboard cubes either covered in cloth or rope and with plastic inserts. that being said it takes a little time to assemble. and it is heavy from the wood that is used it is really strong when put together. my cat loves it and ignores the old one he tells so comfortable in the new one he tries to attack. me everything i walk pass it.it's like he lays in ambush because he feels so comfortable in his new tower
